Happy Birthday To Me

Standard

Thank you to my husband, son and daughter for going to so much trouble to make my birthday extra special.
And thank you to my dad for managing to make my mouth crack into smile even before I had been caffeinated this morning.
When my husband asked me what I wanted this year, the answer came without hesitation: “An original Jo Hodgen oil on box canvas please”. I’ve been following her in my favourite sellers on eBay ever since I started selling my own paintings on there years ago. Nobody else captures the randomness and spirit of children quite like she does. Jo’s unique style makes for happy, feel-good paintings and I am totally, utterly and completely chuffed to bits with my present. You can find more of Jo’s paintings on eBay UK and, I believe, in several galleries in London. I’d add a link, but you already know why I haven’t. Yep, still truly useless.

I’m trying out a new look. It’s called “The Granny”. My hair went prematurely grey some years ago (my mother discovered my first grey hair when I was only 24) and I’ve since had all sorts of off-the-shelf dye on it, including the lovely shade of purple that I showed you on an earlier blog. As with make-up though, I just couldn’t be asked to keep putting it on. And so “The Granny” was born. I had what was left of the dyed bits cut off and am now completely grey. Do I like it? Some days I do. Other days I feel like reaching for the bottle….of hair dye.

Day 4 of getting my accounts ready for the accountant to do my tax return. I keep closing my eyes and hoping that they’ll all be done when I open them again. Numbers are pants. Numbers are boring. I just want to paint.

Couldn’t bring myself to sell this one. It reminds me of my nan’s generation. She never left the house without a hat or a headscarf on and, no matter how hot the weather, on went the camelhair coat with the great big collar.
